Successful Endoscopic Treatment of Difficult Common Bile Duct Stones Using Various Interventional Techniques: A Case Report

نویسندگان

چکیده

Clearance of a difficult biliary stone can be obtained using various interventional techniques such as endoscopic sphincterotomy followed by papillary large balloon dilation, mechanical lithotripsy, peroral cholangioscopy-assisted intraductal electrohydraulic/laser temporary plastic stent insertion, percutaneous transhepatic cholangioscopy-guided and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. We hereby describe the successful treatment currently available in case with multiple common bile duct stones. Furthermore, we discuss countermeasures to overcome hurdles each procedure.

Endoscopic management of difficult common bile duct stones.

Endoscopy is widely accepted as the first treatment option in the management of bile duct stones. In this review we focus on the alternative endoscopic modalities for the management of difficult common bile duct stones. Most biliary stones can be removed with an extraction balloon, extraction basket or mechanical lithotripsy after endoscopic sphincterotomy. Endoscopic papillary balloon dilation...

Various Techniques for the Surgical Treatment of Common Bile Duct Stones: A Meta Review

Common bile duct stones (CBDSs) may occur in up to 3%-14.7% of all patients for whom cholecystectomy is preformed. Patients presenting with CBDS have symptoms including: biliary colic, jaundice, cholangitis, pancreatitis or may be asymptomatic. It is important to distinguish between primary and secondary stones, because the treatment approach varies. Stones found before, during, and after chole...

Percutaneous Approach for Removal of Difficult Common Bile Duct Stones

duct stone disease is one of the most common problems in medical practice. Surgical common bile duct (CBD) exploration was the procedure of choice for the treatment of bile duct stones a few decades ago. However, endoscopic retrogr-ade cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with sphincterotomy has become the treatment of choice for bile duct stones after the development of ERCP techniques. Development...

Endoscopic biliary large-balloon dilation after endoscopic sphincterotomy for the treatment of large common bile duct stones. Case report.

Common bile duct (CBD) stones extraction is usually performed by endoscopic sphincterotomy followed by removal by either a Dormia basket or extraction balloon catheter. However, some stones due to their size are not amenable to these procedures and extracorporeal or mechanical lithotripsy devices need to be used. Mechanical lithotripsy involves usage of a basket that will be inevitably destroye...
